WHAT IS GOING ON????

No worries…last night I finally was able to install wordpress to my domain. I was using wordpress.com and redirecting the blog to thedailybacon.com. Now, through wordpress.org, the program now sits directly on my domain! YEAH!

This will allow me to play with the CSS to create my own design and hopefully open up a lot more widgets to play with.

Anyone a wordpresser who can provide some tips…I’d love to hear what you have to say!

Nerd News…Week 5

or “How Baird Got His Nerd Back!”

So a much better week in Nerd News for me.  I got myself FOCUSED and came at it with a new found dedication to nerdiness!!  I have not been nerdy for so long now that I just had to get myself back in the game!

In “Watchmen” News…they release this incredible little game on their website.  Stuff like this really gets by nerd juices flowing!!  I got caught up in it and played this for about 20 minutes in my office on Thursday (shhhh).  Between things like this and what is being updated everyday on “The New Frontiersmen” site…it’s just AWESOME.  I told Better Half to get a sitter now so we can get to the movie the weekend it opens.  Since we’ve had Lil’ Baird, I haven’t stepped foot in a theater.  I even missed “Quantum of Solace“.  I will NOT miss this movie in the theater!!!

It was clean out the DVR weekend as I watched:

  • Batman: Brave and The Bold- good episode with Despero and the Green Lantern Corp, caught up
  • Star Wars: The Clone Wars – three episodes, caught up
  • Psych – two episodes, caught up
  • The F Word – six episodes (more on this later)
  • Leverage - one episode, not caught up yet
  • 30 Rock – two episodes, caught up
  • The Office
  • Burn Notice – two episodes, caught up
  • Lost (this show is SO ROCKIN’ THIS SEASON!)
  • Top Chef
  • Dirty Jobs - four episodes, caught up (one was a show on animal rendering – DO NOT watch if you are eating!)

It’s really easy to blow through the DVR when there really is no sports on TV.  No MSU basketball, no Pistons…freed up a lot of time.

When I got back home last Thursday, I had a new box of comics waiting for me as well.  Now usually when I get my new books (bi-weekly) I sit down immediately and can get through almost all of them in one, maybe two nights.  Being so busy with work, I still had a stack from the shipment before I needed to get through.  In between all that TV watching, I knocked out all about 12 books, getting me just into this weeks shipment.  I should be caught up by Tuesday night!  One good book I got this week was the first part of Neil Gaiman’sWhatever Happened to the Cape Crusader” story running in “Batman“.  Neil is a terrific fantasy / comic writer.  You may have seen his name lately as the writer of the new movie ”Coraline“.  A quick aside, the producer of “Coraline”, Bill Mechanic is a Michigan State grad.  In the movie, the dad is seen wearing a MSU sweatshirt!  GO GREEN!)

I am also try to catch up this week with all the news from the New York Comic Con that happened last week and the International Toy Fair going on right now.  I was lucky to attend both of these events last year with Fathead.  This year, just picking up what nuggets I can from the blogosphere!

No video games this week…but I am determined to get back to playing Lego Batman.

Kidding aside, it was a real interesting show and TOMCAR showed real well.  The show organizers and volunteers were terrific.  This was one of the easiest shows I have ever had to work.

Our display looked great and we had a pretty steady stream of people over the three days.  Here are a couple shots…

Our Display for the First Time

Our car ROCKS!

Our car ROCKS!

We’ll see how things go these next few weeks…who knows, I could be making hotel reservations in Tulare for February 2010.

What’s Better…

than Target?  Why a Target that sells bacon!!

Of all places, in Tulare, CA, they just recently built a SUPER Target!!  This thing was HUGE…I was in heaven.

It featured a FULL grocery store along with all the regular goodness that is Target.  I am talking bakery, meat department, full produce, the whole she-bang!

Living here in Michigan, we were the first consumers to enjoy the grocery/mass retailer combo with Meijer (That Frederick was ahead of his time)!

Our family shops at Meijer all the time.  But I got to tell you, if Target was ever willing to bring one of the SUPER stores here and fight Meijer on their own turf…I’d be the first to switch and probably would NEVER shop anywhere else again.

I’m an IDIOT! Take 2

LMAO…..

It was just pointed out to me by Kathleen (SHOUT OUT) that I spelled Idiot wrong in the title of the last post!

BRILLIANT!

Truly, truly an idiot.

Aside from that, my personal nightmare had a happy ending tonight.  After destroying the house and going through my luggage again like a DEA agent, I found my spare key!!  Better Half got me to the airport after work and I was able to bring the car home.

So the $$ tally – $120 for two cab rides, $32 for the extra parking and let’s call it $20 for gasoline back and forth from DTW twice.

UGH!

Tomorrow – my slide show from the World Ag Show.  Then it’s back to savory bacon goodness!

I’m an Idoit! Take 1…

It seems that while out at the World Ag Show, someone lost his car key! If that was all it wouldn’t be a big deal but my car key included the controls to my “integrated” car alarm. With no key to deactivate the alarm, I can not get the car out of the garage at DTW without towing it.

When I got home last night, I cabbed it to my house thinking that Better Half had the spare. Turns out it was just a valet key. I decided to try it anyway and took another cab back out to the airport this morning. Guess what….valet key doesn’t deactivate the alarm, so I can’t even get the car out of park let alone drive it. So I call a local VW dealer and they tell me I need to tow it to them so they can deactivate my alarm and then provide me with a new key. UGHHHHHH!!

So, here I sit back at DTW, my car stuck and I waiting for Better Half to pick me up after dropping Lil’ Baird at daycare so I can then go home and turn the whole place upside down to find that freakin’ spare key with alarm controls. If I can’t…then it’s the fee to tow the car to Livonia then having to pay service to deactivate the alarm. I’m easily looking at dropping over $300 (cab rides back and forth, extra parking, towing fee, potential overnight car rental and service fee) all because I couldn’t zip my car key into my briefcase!!!!

P.S. – I’ve labeled this “Take 1″ as I am sure as things move on, I will continue to make bone head mistakes…so consider this part of an ongoing series… ;-)
