Водочка бекона = Bacon Vodka!

You heard me…bacon vodka!  Only they spell it Bakon…and they don’t make it is Russia, but right here in the good old U.S. of A.vodka

It’s only available in the northwest right now, but you can sign up to be notified when it will be distributed in your area.

They also feature some recipes and I got to tell you, a bacon vodka bloody mary sound pretty darn tasty!

So drink your Bakon Vodka and then the next morning have a BLT to get rid of your hangover!  That’s how I’d roll…

Swine Flu, Bacon and You…

This is my first and only post and/or reference to Swine Flu.

I was looking all over the interwebs for something, anything that just rationally spelled things out in regards to this virus.  The best I found was an interview yesterday that I heard on “The Takeaway” on NPR and this article by Cindy Perman from CNBC.

From the article:

You can get swine flu from eating pork, bacon or other pig products.
FALSE, FALSE and FALSE! Memories of sick Thai picnickers are still fresh in many people’s minds from the bird-flu outbreak, so many people assume that with swine flu, you can catch it from eating pig products. Not true, say both the WHO and CDC:

“Swine influenza has not been shown to be transmissible to people through eating properly handled and prepared pork (pig meat) or other products derived from pigs. The swine influenza virus is killed by cooking temperatures of 160°F/70°C corresponding to the general guidance for the preparation of pork and other meat,” the WHO reports on its Web site.

I’d encourage you to read the whole article and listen to the interview.

That is all!

NOLA…”Don’t Breathe when you Eat”…

So day three in New Orleans started pretty well.  We headed down to Café Du Monde for beignets and coffee.  I mean when in Rome right?  Their menu at Café Du Monde is pretty simple…First on the list, beignets, second coffee, the rest other beverage choices and that is it!  Now how can you go wrong?

double order of beignets

double order of beignets

I ordered up two helping of beignets (6 total) and I think I had them gone in about 5 minutes.  Oh they were so good!  Just don’t breathe in when you go to bite into one or you’ll be coughing powered sugar all over yourself and those within a 100 yard radius of you.

Headed over to the show after and it was another good day.  The cars really did look great and we a few folks who were REALLY interested…we’ll see how things work out.  All and all it’s a show I think we’d do again, but next year it’s not in New Orleans…it’s in Detroit…at least shipping and travel won’t be a problem, but I wonder if I’d still get per deim :-)

Show closed at 4:00 pm and it was your standard mad rush to load out.  We had made a friend with one of the floor marshalls and he had us first in line to get our cars off the floor.  After that everything just fell into place.  Load out with just two of us breaking things down only took an hour and a half!  KA-POW!  The only drawback was like with load-in, in this humidity, I did lose another 10 pds. in water weight.

We were sweaty, dirty, hungry and thirsty, so back across the street we went to Mulate’s for dinner.  I got to tell you…I don’t think they have one bad thing on that menu.  I had a hankerin’ for bar-be-que and decided on the full slab of ribs and boy oh boy where they good.  I destroyed those things.  It had the most unique sauce I have ever had and literally was sopping my fries in it so I wouldn’t miss a drop.  I can’t recommend this place anymore!!!

It was back to the hotel after that.  Had a 5:00 am wake up call for my flight out so did some laundry, watched some HBO and tried to sleep.  A good, productive and fun three days in New Orleans.

NOLA…”It’s Rich”…

Day two in New Orleans and it was a good one.

The show we are at for TOMCAR didn’t open until 12:30 pm, so it gave us time to sleep in a bit from Bourbon St. the night before.  We still got to the Convention Center around 11:00 am and had plenty of time to detail the cars and just make sure everything was in place.  The cars showed real well and we had a lot of interest throughout the day.

Surprising to me was lunch in the exhibit hall.  They had a sausage and chicken gumbo in the buffet line and I got to tell you, it was terrific. It turns out that the gumbo was just a small taste of the Cajun cuisine we’d be eating that day!

Been Drinkin’? Have a BLT…

This could come in handy down here in New Orleans…might have to beta test it…  ;-)

Bacon sandwiches cure hangovers!!

Researchers claim food also speeds up the metabolism helping the body get rid of the booze more quickly.

Elin Roberts, of Newcastle University’s Centre for Life said: “Food doesn’t soak up the alcohol but it does increase your metabolism helping you deal with the after-effects of over indulgence. So food will often help you feel better.

Ms Roberts told The Mirror: “Bingeing on alcohol depletes neurotransmitters too, but bacon contains a high level of aminos which tops these up, giving you a clearer head.”

NOLA – Heaven on a Bun!…and more…

Ah, New Orleans!  Even in April you can cut the air with a knife.

Well, it wasn’t that bad, just this Michigan boy wasn’t ready for it.  I especially wasn’t ready for it at load in with the expo hall open to the elements.  We just had a small piece of truss to put up by the time I got there and I think I lost 10 pounds in water weight.  Other than that, set up went great and we were out of there in no time.

So what to do Saturday afternoon in New Orleans?  Why, eat and drink of course.

Walkin’ to New Orleans…

louisiana-new-orleans-boubon-st-sign-lr-400x309

Well, technically not walkin’ but jumpin’ on a jet plane that is going to Philly then down to NOLA.

Working a show for TOMCAR in The Big Easy…by the time this “robo-posts” I be in the air.

Lookin’ forward to a stop on Bourbon St.  I haven’t been there since my Minor League Baseball days…actually that’s a good story… I was about three weeks in at my new job as Asst. GM of the Peoria Chiefs.  We headed to NOLA for the Baseball Winter Meetings (always a good time).  It was our first night in the city and we went to Pat O’Brien’s for Hurricanes.  My boss (name withheld to protect the innocent) drank so many Hurricanes that when he got sick in the middle of the night, he thought he was pukin’ blood.  True story.  He did not come out of his room for 48 hours after that evening.  First trip with the boss – good times, good times…

So anyhooI’ll be tweeting from the city during the duration (thru Tuesday) so check me out at Twitter or just peek at the feed in the right column.  I’ll also be trying to get a post or two in…

Have a great weekend!
