Makin’ Bacon…Hormel Black Label
Over these last few days, I have been rather distracted. What with MSU going off and makin’ the finals and then breakin’ my heart and all. But now it’s time we got back to Bacon Bizzness.
Strangely, this is only the third “Makin’ Bacon” post in the four long months this blog has been in existence. Shame on me.
So let’s get to it! Today, it’s Hormel Black Label Bacon!
This was the “Original” type…so when I opened the package, there wasn’t any sort of manufactured smoke or sweet, sticky maple smell.

Looking good, the slices were evenly cut and easy to pull apart…I got 16 clean slices…

Nice strips!! Look at that marbling. Good length too. I like the slices to just come over the edges of the cooking sheet…

Right out of the stove. This tray smelled great. I was a little bummed about the shrinkage given the amount of meat in each slice…

And cooling. The slices had a great color and a good snap when I bit them.
This so far has been my favorite pre-packaged bacon. These tasted GREAT! No monkeying around with special flavors or anything like that, just nice pure bacon. There was a nice balance with the level of salt too…wasn’t too overpowering, just there…and that is how I like it! Better Half even commented that this was some of the best she’s had…and that is coming from someone who was raised a vegetarian!!!!
They even held up after breakfast in the fridge. Used them the next day for a sandwich (fit real well across a slice of bread, so I won’t fault them to much on the shrinkage issue) and Better Half made some bits for a salad at dinner!
So Hormel, you done yourself proud. I’m giving you 8 1/2 piggies eating bacon!
