Makin’ Bacon – Gusto’s

Time to preheat the oven and bake us up another batch of bacon!  This time, it’s Gusto’s!

I had never heard of Gusto’s before. I happened upon it when I was putting together my weekly “Goin’ to the Market” post and figured I’d stop at Hiller’s and pick some up. 

First, any bacon that has this quote on it’s label,

“Eat more pork.  Be a better lover.”

Well that bacon has to be good bacon, right?This is good old fashioned thick cut bacon,

Real nice marbling, just barely fit the pan…so far so good…

Out of the oven, look at those slices!  Nice even coloring.  My mouth is watering.

You can see here, not a lot of shrinkage after cooking…this bacon holds up…

The final product…my BLT.  The slices were so long, that when folded in half, they still fit the bread from end to end.  This gave me a nice stack of bacon on the sandwich without using too many slices…so more sandwiches for me later in the week!

I was so please with this bacon.  It cooked very evenly, had a nice faint hickory flavor – nothing to overpowering, had a good snap when you bit it and chewed very well.  I usually shy away from think cut at home because I can’t seem to cook it as well as regular sliced bacon in my oven but not anymore.  All thanks to you Gusto’s!
