Nerd News…Week 18

Time to let my nerd flag fly…

First – it was Daddy Daughter Day on Sunday.  With me being gone all week in Utah, I gave Better Half a break and took off with Lil’ Baird.  Where did we go?  Why the Motor City Comic Con!!!

mccc

We both got dressed in our Lucasfilm shirts (I got her a onesie when I went to their offices last year) and headed out.

It wasn’t a bad show this year and a nice crowd for a Sunday.  The big highlight for dad was getting to meet Carrie Fisher (that’s Princess Leia y’all).  Lil’ Baird and I stood in line for only about 15 minutes and I had Ms. Fisher sign a photo for my baby girl!  SWEET!!

After, I had the chance to meet Art Baltazar.  Who the hell is Art Baltazar?? Why he’s the co-creator and artist behind “Patrick The Wolf Boy” and “Tiny Titans“…

He was doing sketches for $5.00 at his table and I asked if I could get a Wonder Girl sketch for my wonder girl!  He eagerly obliged and we chatted about our children (a real daddy moment) until he was finished.  He then did the nicest thing…he gave me the drawing.  I still gave him some money by picking up a copy of a “Tiny Titans” graphic novel so I could read stories to Lil’ Baird and he graciously sign it.  He has a artistic style that’s real fun and he was tremendously nice!  I look forward to seeing him at Cons down the road and can not recommend his stuff enough!

So Lil’ Baird gets a cool, original drawing, a signed copy of a graphic novel AND an autograph from Princess Leia.  Daddy – daddy got nothing…but a big old smile on my face!

Couple of other nerdy things…

If you haven’t heard/seen this yet…you are in for a treat.  I give you Lorenzo Lamas’ next movie, co-starring Deborah Gibson (yes, that Deborah Gibson) – “Mega-Shark v. Giant Octopus“!

Finally this week, a little video for all you Star Trek / Star Wars nerds…

You know, I didn’t catch any of this while watching Star Trek…and I really don’t care cause I loved Star Wars and I really liked this new Trek. I think if you try hard enough you can pull something like this for ANY two movies in a similar genre…still, it’s kinda funny and probably got a lot of nerd drawers in a bunch!

I also stumbled on what is fast becoming my second favorite nerd/geek site behind Topless RobotGEEKOLOGIE.  Bookmark both of them and read them daily!

I’ll get to other nerdy stuff later this week…I got a bunch of comic books this week and still have to talk about the “Lost” and “Smallville” finalies…

Live long and prosper!
