Remembrance – The King of Pop

Holy crap!
That was my reaction….and I don’t think I was alone!
Now Michael Jackson has long ago lost his luster with me and probably for many other people. To me he lost touch with reality, but I guess growing up in an environment like he did, it probably wasn’t that big of a stretch to expect that. But that isn’t what or how I wish to remember…
It’s funny, I was just on Facebook and you start reading the posts and I think this death is really kind of hitting people of my generation pretty hard. I related it to a friend as our Elvis, and the more I think about it, the more I come to believe that. There are strong parallels. They both so greatly impacted a generation and forever changed the course of music. There’s The Beatles, Elvis and The Rolling Stones for the previous generation and Bruce Springsteen, Prince and Michael Jackson for us.

“Thriller” is one of the best pop album’s ever! PERIOD! His legacy as a musical genius and overall entertainer will be forever cemented in history.
I remember vividly watching the Motown Special where Michael first moonwalked, running over to my best friends house to watch the “Thriller” video and thinking it was the greatest video I had ever seen, learning how to dance to “Beat It” and “PYT“, singing “Billie Jean” in the car…etc, etc…
For over the course of 10 years, it truly seemed he could do no wrong musically…hell even later on he still knocked some singles out of the park (I really, really dig “Scream” with Janet…I’ll admit it).
His music is part of the soundtrack that was my youth, so many memories! Memories that have become even more vivid recently as I approach my 20th high school class reunion. So this weekend I just might pull out the yearbook, grab a wine cooler and crank up “HIStory”

R.I.P. Michael.

Well said, sir. I had this very similar thought earlier today and hoped that people wouldn’t remember him for the Michael that we saw in the last 10-15 years, but for the Michael that was an inspiration for literally millions and was ridiculously talented.
