What I Will Do for Content…
So last week my brother leaves the following comment, reprinted as is:
As I was woofing down my “Baconator” yesterday I thought to myself “Wendy’s really does have the best fast food bacon out there”. Have you researched fast food bacon? Why is Burger Kingsbacon so small and out of shape and lacks in flavor with a waxy texture? is it real bacon? It gets lost under the big Whopper bun! what’s going on with fast food bacon? i dont know if you have already addressed this issue? but if you have could we revisit the topic?! THANKS! your bro
While I am sure this is a topic that some of the more established food / bacon blogs may have tackled, it is not one that I have explored at any length. So I have decided to do something about that…

Bacon and Goin’ Green…

This was an interesting little article I found yesterday on the interwebs – from the “Glen Falls Post-Star” and written by Wendy Baird (no relation). Here’s an excerpt:
Bacon: Is it the big obstacle to going green?
I had an interesting conversation with a friend the other day.
She has decided to ditch the paper towels for good — substituting reusable rags and cloth napkins instead — but she lamented that there are a few times that she still wishes she had them around.
Since our family gave up paper towels a few years ago, I knew just what she was going to say.
Bacon!
Boy let me tell you, I know what they mean. I blow through the paper towels whenever I make bacon. I have tried to be less dependant on paper, but it is just so bloody convenient.
Wendy goes on to give a few pluses/minuses on some alternatives and finally shares how she has “combatted” the problem. You can read the rest of the article here.
Yes, stuff like this can get kinda preachy, but it still raises an interesting question for discussion…and I love that it’s BACON that was making the cold turkey on paper towels decision so difficult.

BACON SUNDAY V…

That is V as in the roman numeral five, as in 5th. It does not stand for vendetta, victory, visitors of even peace…although I’d live a PEACE of bacon (oh, that was bad, sorry).
Yup, it is time for another BACON SUNDAY!
We’ve had a lot of new folks stopping by since our last “event”, so please allow me a minute to explain just what BACON SUNDAY is…
BACON SUNDAY is a day where we here at ”The Daily Bacon“ encourage you to take some time out of your hectic schedules and go enjoy yourself a good old breakfast! It could be a get together with friends, family or even just a quiet morning at a greasy spoon with your newspaper. I am a HUGE proponent of a great breakfast. Some of my favorite memories are around big ole breakfasts.
So, as the name suggests, we select a Sunday and of course encourage you to have bacon with that meal.
We have people who have wanted to “attend” BACON SUNDAY, but don’t dig on pork for various reasons. I have heard their cries and now proclaim that BACON SUNDAY doesn’t even have to include pig…just knowing that you are willing to join in the spirit of the “event” is plenty cool with me!
So grab a pen and write this down…the official date for BACON SUNDAY V is August 23, 2009!
Join us won’t you?!?

Better with Bacon – Warm Bacon Dressing
As gardens are starting to bear fruit, one might want to enjoy a cold, crisp salad on a warm summer night! Alas even I, your bacon boy, do enjoy a nice salad every once in a while.
When living in Peoria, there was a restaurant, VOP’s (Vonachen’s Old Place), that my bosses father used to own. We’d go there for the occassional business lunch and that is where I had a Spinach Salad for the first time. The nice thing about a good Spinach Salad is that it usually features both crumbled bacon AND if lucky a warm bacon dressing.
Those memories came back to me today when I found this recipe: [Read more →]

Nerd News…Comic-Con CosPlay…
Last weekend there was this little event called COMIC-CON happening in San Diego. Nerd Nirvana for me and many others. In all my years, I have only been able to go to San Diego just once and now with Lil’ Baird in the mix and as I am no longer working in the sports and entertainment industries, I probably won’t be able to go again for a few more years…so like many, I gots to get my news through the interwebs.
While catching up today, reading a few show summaries, I ran into this link on Maximum PC. They are featuring 600 images of costumed individuals from this year’s Con. I absolutely love CosPlay (I think it stems from my overall love of Halloween)! Some of the outfits you run into at Con’s are just incredible and VERY creative. I will spare you the slave Leia or fat guy in spandex photo (although there are plenty featured) and just share with you the ONE photo that I thought was brilliant:

It Was 20 Years Ago Today…
well not exactly 20 years to the day, but indeed 20 years since yours truly graduated from Lakeland High School in White Lake, MI. Last night, I went to my reunion…
I really was torn about whether I should go or not and wrote about it on the blog. The comments I received both here and on Facebook, a few from former classmates, helped me to decide that yeah I should go. The nice thing was that our “rival” high school, Milford, was also having their reunion the same night at the same place.Â
So I got there about an hour late (stayed home to watch the end of the Tigers / White Sox game) and as I was walking into the building, I really got a little nervous. I had to stop and take a few breaths before opening the door. It actually got worse as I went up to the registration table. I held out my hand to get my wristband and saw it shaking. What the hell Baird?!? I needed a drink!
