Should I Stay or Should I Go?
We’ll get back to bacon later today, but first I have a small dilemma. I really would love to hear your thoughts…
Lakeland High School’s 20 year reunion is at the end of this month and I am still deciding whether or not I should go.

High school really wasn’t my bag. My family moved from Milford to White Lake, MI after my 7th grade year. While the move wasn’t that great, it did mean a new school and having to start over in the friend department. To be frank, that didn’t turn out so well. I was never part of any set social clique. Sure I had “friends” in my classes, people who I could sit with, joke with, have lunch with, but I never really hung out with anyone in school. I didn’t go to my school’s prom or homecomings, attend any sporting events, go to anyone’s house for a party or just to hang out.
Don’t get me wrong, I had a great social life, but I was involved with things outside of high school. To me, school literally was just a place where I was from 7:00 am – 2:30 pm.
So my class has set up a page through Classmates.com and I have visited it a few times in the last few weeks, looking at updated profiles of former classmates and reviewing the list of those who will be attending.  To be honest, doing this has actually made me a little sentimental…”Oh I remember her”, “We had a great time in Spanish”, “So that’s what he’s doing”, etc. There are some folks who I really would like to see, especially those few who I’ve been reintroduced to through social media. Those folks who I have connected with lately, there’s never been any reminiscing, so what would I talk about? The history of my life is now on Facebook and I hate small talk. The main reason why I’m not that great of a networker is that I absolutely hate working a room…and that’s what this feels like.Â
If that was the whole story, then my decision would be simple. I’m not going…but…
Milford High School is having their reunion the same night at the same place. Milford is where just about all of my friends from elementary, middle school and church group went. I looked at their list of RSVP’s and there is a whole bunch of people who I would love to see. Most of them I lost touch with either after high school or college. One of my old friends actually just found me on Facebook and it was real cool getting that request.
So do I go to my reunion to essentially crash Milford’s and surprise everyone there?

Mike,
I think you should go…even if it is only to see all the people that you had better ties with at Milford High. You said you weren’t really in a big social clique, but that’s no reason not to go! You’re a very good looking guy, who has done a lot of very impressive things with your life…why not go and show everyone who and what you are?
If i were you, i would go to crash Milfords. I think you would enjoy yourself more being around people you “grew up” with rather then have bs conversations with ppl you only knew a short time.
Mike,
I was having the same dilemma as you. Should I go or not? In high school I was pretty much a social outcast. My life revolved around doing the school thing in the morning, then work after school, then hang out at home. I really had no social life in high school other than being picked on by the “in” crowd.
I did have some good friends that I went through school with since I moved to Huron Valley district. But I havn’t spoken with them since that June day when we all graduated. I, like yourself, have many of my good friends now that graduated from Milford. Unfortunately, most of them graduated between 83 and 88, so they woudln’t be at the reunion.
I am going, just to go and see people I havn’t seen in 20 yrs. Even though I wasn’t the social butterfly, or even if most of the students in our class didn’t know me, it really doesn’t matter. It’s not that I can even boast that I am a successful person, granted, I’ve done a ton of different things with my life since HS and regret none of them, as they are all life building experiences.
I say go, if it blows, crash the Milford reunion.
Mike – I think it will be interesting to see everyone again – I think most of us plan on venturing over to Milford’s reunion too. Alot of my friends from Junior High went their. And yes – I do have a picture floating around from pre-school – and you are in it! Hope to see you in a few weeks.
To Ed W. – didn’t really connect in HS, but worked for a while with your Dad a few years ago. He was one of my favorite guys to have around!
Wah, Wah, Wah. No one was cool in high school. I mean I was but that is no surprise.
Do both-trust me you will be surprised how much fun you have.
whatever…
