My Secret Shame…

I like Olive Garden.
There, I said it! What brought on this admission? I got in the car to head out to lunch and started driving aimlessly around. I had no idea what I wanted to eat, just that I could not do another sandwich. The car ended up passing Olive Garden on Rochester Road and I remembered – Unlimited Soup, Salad and Bread Sticks!!
Olive Garden started this promotion back when I was in college. There was one particular summer where the guys in my house would make a lunch trip to the Garden by Meridian Mall in Okemos. Short on cash in those days, ALL YOU CAN EAT was a beacon in the darkness! It was only $7.00 to get the special and a beverage with still some coin for an appropriate tip (TANGENT: my particular bev choice was milk – the only time outside of living in the dorms that I had milk during five years at Michigan State). We ate like KINGS!!
So today, two bowls of pasta de fagioli soup, salad and warm buttery bread sticks! Oh, so good. It costs $6.95 these days (not including beverage) but I still believe it to be one of the best deals out there.
Sure, I probably ingested a years worth of sodium and the salad is mostly iceburg, which has absolutely no nutritional value…but it was a nice meal to break up the routine, I’m full and I really do LOVE that soup!
