BTV – What Would Brian Boitano Make?
So this weekend was the premier of “What Would Brian Boitano Make?” on the Food Network and I gotta say, it was a good show.

What is Brian Boitano doing with a cooking show you ask? Well, he’s a foodie! He’s also pretty funny and engaging. Some of the scripted stuff is a little over the top but then again, this is a cooking show with Brian Boitano.
I don’t know how much of the recipes are his on the show, but the first episode featured some great food that was simple to make. My favorite: Crab & Avocado Crostini.
So Michael…crab??? Really??? Where’s the bacon???
Here’s your bacon, in the show preview for his next episode airing on August 30th…
Derby Girls
After sharing post-game Bacon Martinis with an all girl roller derby squad, Brian invites the team to his house for a dinner party. All of Brian’s simple and succulent recipes are created with the ladies’ favorite ingredient – Bacon!
That’s right – the whole ep is BACON BABY!!!!
So tune in next week…
Until then, here’s a link to a video of Brian making a “Bacone“.

BACON SUNDAY V…Good Times…
Happy BACON SUNDAY V everyone…I hope you had an enjoyable day!

Better Half, Lil’ Baird and I celebrated by headin’ out to Canton to have breakfast with my brother, his wife and Jack Attack at a place called Alex’s Family Restaurant. It was some good eatin’…
They had some terrific pancakes! Airy, fluffly and a great vanilla scent and flavor. Seriously some of the best I have had in a long while. Everyone got in the spirit and ordered a side of bacon. It was good bacon, short slices though and a few ends weren’t cooked completely but hey, it was still tasty!
Here was a shot of the table right after the plates showed up. [Read more →]

Fast Food Friday – McDonald’s
Well here we go. What I was going to call the “Fast Food Bacon Burger Tour” has now just been shortened to “Fast Food Friday”. Every week TDB will be taking a look at a different chain, starting with QSR (quick service restaurant) burger joints.
We shall start with the granddaddy of them all – McDonald’s. Nothing symbolic about this selection, they just happen to be within walking distance of work and I had a coupon this week
McDonald’s held out for a long time before adding strip bacon to their menu items. It was only recently with the invention of their premium chicken sandwiches that bacon has found a permanent place at the golden arches.
For our bacon taste test, I ordered their new Bacon & Cheese Angus Third Pounder.

BTV – Top Chef Returns…
So last night was a GREAT night as “Top Chef: Las Vegas” premiered.Â

I LOVE “Top Chef”!!! There I said it. I even really dug “Top Chef Masters” (which wrapped up last night, but it’s still on the DVR, so don’t tell me anything about it) but let’s face it, it just didn’t have the same energy as the original.
- Here is where if you haven’t seen last night show yet, you should bail, cause I’m gonna talk about what went down! – [Read more →]

The BRS – Bacon Rating System
After I announced my newest feature, “Fast Food Bacon Tour” a few weeks ago, I started thinking about how to rate the bacon that I would be tasting each week at these burger joints.Â
I was using a very arbitrary system with my “Makin’ Bacon” features that simply provided an overall rating on a scale of 1-10. That seemed fine in retrospect, but now it was time to really set some criteria that, while still very subjective, at least it would be consistent from one restaurant to another.
What I have settled upon comes to us from iheartbacon.com. The author is an old school bacon/food blogger and developed what she simply called the “Bacon Rating System“, or “The BRS“ for short. No sense reinventing the wheel when she developed some pretty good criteria. With her permission, here it is: [Read more →]
