Better with Bacon – Bacon Salted Caramel Pecan Bars
Holy moley…(smack, smack, smack)…behold Alice’s Bacon Salted Caramel Pecan Bars.

Drawing inspiration from last week’s find – the “Sir Francis Bacon Peanut Brittle” – here is another sweet and savory treat that you can make right in your own little kitchen. It’s a very involved recipe but I couldn’t help but share…I mean look at the photo!!!
Ironically (or not) this sweet and savory treat comes via savorysweetlife.com. You can find the recipe along with step-by-step photos and “glutton free” instructions over on their website.
Enjoy!

Saturday Morning Video Funhouse…
Nerdy Star Wars edition…
So, first we have this incredible stop motion movie of Lego characters building the over 5,000 piece Lego Millennium Falcon. SOMEONE MADE THIS!!! Kudos to you sir…I’d never have the patience for something like this. There are tons of little details (like Obi-Wan / Yoda using the force to lift something and all the little janitor scenes) so watch closely. It’s also kinda long but it creates such nerd joy…
and B, this great little video of a dog dressed up like an AT-AT. Typically I am completely against dressing up pets, but there are exceptions and this my friends is one…
Have a great weekend everyone.

BTV – Man V. Food in the D Review…
The Detroit episode of “Man V. Food” aired this past Wednesday. I just got around to watching it on the old DVR last night and I got to say, it was a decent showing.

They started with American and Lafayette Coney. I guess that is appropriate as both really are mainstays and essential tourist destinations. When you really think about it, they are pretty much the only true food “destination” in the city. Sure there are great bars and some terrific restaurants, but if you want a unique Detroit experience oddly enough you take them for coneys.
I’ve had both, but I’ve never done a side by side or (dog by dog) comparison. I just might have to do that next time. [Read more →]

You Got Some Bacon in my Brittle…
I think I found this year’s holiday gift for everyone…

Sir Francis Bacon Peanut Brittle…Brilliant!
Artisan smoked bacon, peanuts and lots of carmalized sugar. How could this be wrong? And if it is (all together) then I don’t want to be right.
COMING SOON - chocolate covered.
So I don’t know if I should wait for the choco-bacon brittle or commit now?!?
Decisions, decisions.
Interested in picking some up? They offer a 3 oz. / 3 box pack or a standard 8 oz. box. and you can order direct from their site.
Happy eatin’!

The Bacon Sandwich Equation…
So that’s it…
From “The Independent” out of Great Britain…
Experts at Leeds University spent more than 1,000 hours tasting 700 variations of the bacon sandwich to cook up a formula for the perfect butty. The secret lies in how crispy and crunchy your rashers are. Their recipe for success is N = C + {fb (cm) . fb (tc)} + fb (Ts) + fc . ta where N = force in Newtons required to break the cooked bacon, fb = function of the bacon type, fc = function of the condiment/filling effect, Ts = serving temperature, tc = cooking time, ta = time or duration of application of condiment or filling, cm = cooking method and C = Newtons required to break uncooked bacon.
Let me restate that for you:
N = C + {fb (cm) . fb (tc)} + fb (Ts) + fc . ta
When you put it like that, it ALL makes sense!
