So at the end of last week’s review I said I was going to Dairy Queen this week.  Do you know how hard it is to find a DQ that actually is still a Brazier store and serves lunch?  Well, it’s very hard.  I found one, but it was a drive…so I thought I’d knock off a different place and checked out where the nearest Hardee’s was. Well, there are only two Hardee’s left in metro Detroit and again, they are a haul to get to. 

So mostly due to my unwillingness to drive anywhere this week, I’ve got nothin’ today! 

Well that isn’t exactly true.  On Wednesday after the Auto Show I did go to one of my favorite bars in Detroit for lunch. Ironically it is called the Detroiter Bar (funny how that works).  They have an everyday house special that includes the Detroiter burger (1/2 lb. cooked to order with ham and bacon on it!!!), fries and a beer for under $9.00.  They are consistently on everyone’s lists of top burgers and why wouldn’t they be when you stack that much pork on a burger?!? 

I got a late start on my “Detroit Free Press” today.  I wasn’t really up to reading the paper but since we in Detroit now only get a paper delivered three times a week, I felt obligated to at least flip through it.

Main section - former mayor a deadbeat, MA election referendum on Obama, blah, blah…

Sports - Spartans just squeezed by Iowa so I didn’t want to read anything about that game cause I was still mad at them!

Business – blah…

Auto - nice Hit or Miss article about the Auto Show (which I’ll show some pictures of tomorrow)…but that was it.

Puzzles – killed them!

Then I came to the weekend tabloid and saw this…

• Walkin the auto show this morning – impressive showing by ford… #
• Hyundai – Hyunblah! #
• New look for Chrysler – unified all the brands but devoid of personality. #
• Chrysler and Dodge may not have new cars but they have new logos… #
• Great new booth from VW (It was about time) but when inside,it is so bright that the light hurts your eyes. #
• I love the Camaro and starting at 23,000 makes me think i need a new car. Can it fit a car seat? #
• Ending the morning at the Detroiter…burger and beer with my former TOMCAR mates. #

Why am I looking up directions from Southfield, MI to Des Moine? 

It’s the “3rd Annual Blue ribbon Bacon Festival: One Giant Step for Man, One Giant Leap for Bacon” taking over Des Moines February 22-27.

They recently released their schedule for the week (yes, that is right, a full week of “festivities”) and I got to tell you, I have half a mind to at least jump in the car on Friday, take in the main event on Saturday, stop into Chicago on Saturday night and then home on Sunday.

Don’t tell Better Half yet…I still need to work out the details in my head…

This week’s adventure in fast food bacon takes us to White Castle! 

To be honest, I had no idea they even had a bacon cheeseburger.  I have made many a stop to the Castle during my day but I’ve pretty much always just got the same thing (a sack of 6 and fries – yes, six) and never even bothered to read the menu.

It was strange actually walking into the restaurant as my typical White Castle experience is a late night drive thru run.
