I listen to NPR every day, I’m their fan on facebook, yet I completely missed THIS story from last week.  How the heck did that happen??

From Susan Russo, an NPR contributor and food writer in San Diego.  She discusses how bacon has made it’s way on to the dessert table…

Paired sweet and salty flavors is why we love kettle corn, chocolate-covered pretzels and Snickers bars.  From that perspective, chocolate-covered bacon and bacon cupcakes suddenly seem, well, right.

Right indeed!

She also provides four great bacon dessert recipes, the first was actually featured earlier today in our “Better with Bacon” segment (so while I found the dessert on Dying for Chocolate, they actually found it here).

Take a quick read and check out the rest of those recipes.  It may be time for another TEST KITCHEN soon!

I’ve had a massive sweet tooth during the holidays so I thought that we could start out the “Better with Bacon” segment for the new year with something that makes my teeth hurt a little just looking at the picture…

WOW!

So last year on New Year’s Day I began this little experiment and my how the time flies.  Here we are one year later and to be honest, I can’t believe I kept this up.

Fatburger!

For a long time – it was just a mythical place out in California.  Then on a business trip in LA, I had my first.  I remember it being good, just sort of crossed it off my internal checklist and then moved on.

Well color me shocked when a Fatburger opened in Michigan.  There is only one store in this entire state and it is literally only 5 miles from me.  This must be fate…

Yet my normal driving pattern never takes me near it.  So on Christmas Eve, while out playing Santa Dad, I made a trip to remind myself about this great little place and officially give that bacon a try!
