Fast Food Friday – Hardees

After a three week break, we are back to eating bacon cheeseburgers in the name of bacon science!

The main reason for the break is that we have reached a point during this experiment where there are no longer any new, unreviewed QSR’s near my house.  This requires me to actually travel to get fast food and to be honest the idea of having to drive 20 minutes or even more to get a burger…well…let’s just say it’s been tough to get motivated.

But today I was already on the road and fate let me right past one of the few Hardee’s left in metro Detroit.  So lunch at Hardee’s it was…

As has been my plan through this whole process, I order the one hamburger option on the standard menu that includes bacon.  Most places this means I am eating a double cheeseburger but at Hardee’s they offer a standard bacon cheeseburger, so that’s what I ordered – the 1/3 lb. Bacon Cheese Thickburger®.

It has literally been close to 10 years since I ate at a Hardee’s, so I forgot that they give you a number and bring your food to you.  So my number and I took a seat and about 5 minutes later this arrived…

Wow, look at that.  It is like I am eating at an actual burger joint, not some fast food / quick serve place.

Not a bad looking burger either…premium bun, good large size and look how the bacon strip are falling out the sides…this could be promising…let’s open her up!

Damn! Bummer…only two strips providing hardly any coverage at all.  BUT, the strips actually do look like bacon, so that counts for something right?

Upon closer inspection…

Thin, but not as thin as typical.

The burger itself wasn’t bad at all, I dare say tasty.  However, like with just about every other burger I’ve had on this journey, the amount of meat along with extra condiments (lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo and cheese in this case) really tends to overwhelm the bacon flavor.  I did get a few good bites where everything mixed just right, but as part of the whole just

Now the bacon itself wasn’t bad.  It had decent texture, not overly salty and actually was one of the first that provided a slight sweetness as well.  I liked that they use nice long strips but wish they’d add at least one extra slice to the burger.

So let’s get to the BRS:

So not a bad score and much to my surprise, TIED with White Castle (that’s just crazy).
