Do you like bacon? Of course you do!
Do you like eggs? I don’t, but you might.
Do you like sushi? Or at least the concept of a bunch of goodness in a roll of rice and seaweed?
Do you feel adventurous?
Do you just wish I’d get to the point?
It’s bacon and egg “sushi” people!
Remarkably this post was originally written in Oct. 2009. How the hell did I miss this?

Leave it to the Fair to Bring Out the Big Bacon Guns…
Remember me mentioning all the bacon news coming out of Illinois recently? We’ll here part of a story that literally stopped me in my tracks.
No photo of this and believe me I tried to find one.
From the “Herald & Review“ in Decatur:
Some festivalgoers came a long way for a taste of Central Illinois. Betsy Perry and her twin brother Joe traveled to Celebration from Minneapolis and thought the country-style BLT with its battered bacon strips was a revelation.
“It’s the best BLT I’ve ever had,” Betsy Perry said. “I’ve never had battered bacon before, but I’m going to make this at home, yes sir. I could serve this bacon as a meal, it’s so good.”
Joe Perry had already finished his BLT.
“It’s great, I just loved it,” he said. “I thought it was one of the most unique foods I’ve ever had, and the homegrown tomatoes and lettuce set off the bacon. Great food to have at a festival. I am loving this Celebration.”
The event concludes today. Among the entertainment acts scheduled to perform are The Charlie Daniels Band, The Georgia Satellites, Exposé, Francesca Battistelli, Tone Loc and Young MC. Today’s hours are 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
I know right…look at that concert lineup. That screams Heart of Illinois.
Oh, there was also that mention about a COUNTRY STYLE, BATTERED BACON BLT! WHAT?!?! That’s just a great idea who’s time has come.
Keep it coming Illinois! Keep it coming!

Bacon Finalist in Papa John’s Pizza Contest…
I have no idea what’s going on in my former home state of Illinois (five year in Peoria yo!) but every day for the last week I’ve been getting a whole bunch of bacon news alerts on the Google machine from the HOI area.
Today, it’s news of Ms. Blair Dial of Springfield, excerpt courtesy of “The State Journal-Register“:
Blair Dial of Springfield — one of three national finalists in a create-your-own Papa John’s pizza contest — is hoping double bacon is her lucky charm. [Read more →]

Bacon Pic of the Day – Meat of the Earth…
From The Doings: Hinsdale -
Some rock hounds spot a shiny object and dream of pendants, earrings and brooches. The late Sylvia Josefek saw bacon, eggs and grits in the rocks she found while perusing the country’s great outdoors.
Josefek lived in North Riverside and spent years collecting and perfecting the rocks used to create The Rock Cafe, on display through Sept. 5 at the Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art in Elmhurst. The tabletop-sized exhibit consists of three place settings, all made from stones and all displayed on items obtained through the artist’s other passion — garage sales.
The meals on the Lizzadro menu include a breakfast made of marble onyx that resembles bacon; eggs crafted from marble and aragonite grits topped with yellow Mexican onyx.
So if you are around Elmhurst, IL over the next month, why not stop on Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Arts.
PS – Lapidary means “concerned with stones”. I had to look that one up.

Some Sugarcubes for your Sunday…
I’ve had these songs stuck in my head all weekend, so I thought I’d share.
So why am I listening to Iceland’s very own The Sugarcubes?? Well I was listening to NPR on my way home from work on Friday and they were doing a feature on Björk. They started playing some of her earlier stuff and that got me thinking of the first time I heard her/played them when I was working back at Impact Radio (MSU’s student radio station) and I just got a little sentimental. So I popped on the Google machine, cranked up the YouTubes and just started walking down memory lane…
Hope you are all having a great weekend. More bacon goodness coming on Monday!

A “Sizzling” Summer…
Popped on Facebook to do play some FarmVille, Mafia Wars, FrontieVille (yeah, I’m a nerd, so what) when I looked over to the right side of the screen and POW…I see a ad unit with this photo.
So of course I click it and what do I find? This…
What’s better than bacon? How about 2 four foot long strips of bacon on a beach towel…THE ORIGINAL BACON BEACH TOWEL!
Most Bacon themed items are gaudy and are not practical, but everyone uses towels and this quality product that you will love for years!
Yes my friends it’s a bacon beach towel. But not any bacon beach towel, THE ORIGINAL bacon beach towel.
Now the site is kinda sketchy…there is only one product in the “catalog” and you’ve just seen it. Given that, I’m gonna wait just a bit before jumping in to buy one. If you are more adventurous then pick one up for just $19.99.
Sizzling summer…get it…cause it’s sizzling hot at the beach…and you get burned…get it? Get it?

Nerd News – Superman & Batman are Makin’ Bank
Okay, this really doesn’t happen…but this last week has seen two of the most coveted comic books pop up for auction.
The first – “Batman“ #1
A collector located in Alaska has decided it was time to part with this beauty and it is being sold today through Heritage Auction Galleries. It’s graded pretty low, hence it’s estimated only at $40,000. (notice I said only $40,000). “Batman” #1 was the first solo book for the Caped Crusader. “Detective Comics” #27 was Batman’s first appearance and is still the most sought after “Bat-comic”.
And then there was this story from yesterday:
“Action Comics” #1….”ACTION” #1. Wow, and it looks like this issue is only graded at a 5 and it still could bring in close to $250,000. Good for that family.
You just never know what you are going to stumble upon do you?
So if you are sitting on $300,000 you want to burn, best get to biddin’.
