It was Bound to Happen – A Bacon Bacon…

This came over the bacon wire last night.  J&D Foods, the maker of bacon products that don’t actually include any bacon (at all) have teamed up with What Do Bacon Do? to commission the Bacon Kevin Bacon bust.

I don’t quite see the likeness, but I do applaud the effort.  With that hair flip, it kinda reminds me of Choco-Bacon Conan…but I digress.

Made of bacon and bacon bits and then lacquered, lacquered and lacquered…

The best thing is you can OWN this! Click that link over there, head over to eBay between now and Saturday, October 9th at 4:30 pm and get yourself a piece of true bacon glory. (Bid as of RIGHT NOW, 9:57 – $358)

Proceeds by the way ALL go to Ashley’s Team. Ashley’s Team is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization with the mission of bringing joy to childhood cancer patients and their families.

Some Food Network Love for Zingerman’s…

On a whim, I DVRed “America’s Best” on Food Network this week.  The first episode was about “America’s Best Comfort Food”.

So they had the regular items you’d expect on the list from restaurants in New York, Las Vegas, LA, etc…blah, blah, blah…

Well the #1 comfort food they selected was mac n’ cheese.  But not just any mac n’ cheese, but Zingerman’s Roadhouse mac n’ cheese.

Well that’s a nice surprise…little bacon lovin’ restaurant down the road bringin’ it home and gettin’ some big time TV love.

Next time you pop in, be on the lookout for the big Food Network silver platter.

So congrats Zingermans! Well deserved. Question for you through, when I come in can I get some bacon sprinkled on it ;-)

BEST TROPHY EVER…The Slab of Bacon!

I was tailgating this weekend up at Michigan State (how ’bout that fake field goal?!) when longtime friend and regular reader of “The Daily Bacon“, Woody (SHOUT OUT), completely called me out for not knowing about what is probably the coolest traveling trophy ever…

This is the Wisconsin – Minnesota “The Slab of Bacon”.  From Wikipedia:

The Slab of Bacon was created in 1930 as a way for the universities to commemorate their rivalry. The Slab of Bacon was a piece of black walnut wood carved with a football topped by a letter W or M, depending on which angle one is looking at it. It was carved by Dr. R. B. Fouch of Minneapolis. Scores of each Wisconsin–Minnesota game were printed on the back of the trophy. When the trophy changed hands, it was presented to the winning school by a sorority from the losing school.

The trophy passed between the Gophers and Badgers for 14 seasons, from 1930 – 1943.  I say passed but really it just sort of stayed in Minnesota with the Gophers winning 11 of those games (9 in a row).

It was after the 1943 game that the Minnesota coach refused to accept the trophy.  He felt that such trophies should be “out of duration” during World War II.  It later disappeared to eventually be replaced with the famed “Paul Bunyon’s Axe”.

Found in a storage room at the Wisconsin Athletic Department during renovations of Camp Randall  in 1994, it currently resides in the Badger’s football offices.  Strangely enough, while it was thought “lost” since 1943, all the scores between the two school from 1930 until 1970 are recorded on it’s back.  Hmmmmmm.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention Woody!  Keep reading and we’ll see you at homecoming!

Here I Go Googlin’ Myself…

Sittin’ on the couch, trying to decide what I was goin’ to write about tonite when I decide to drop “bacon” into the google machine and hit enter…

About 39,600,000 results (0.12 seconds)

Holy!

Okay, I wonder, how deep would I have to go to find the first mention of “The Daily Bacon” in these results?

So I click on the 2, then the 3, then the 4, then the 5…you get the picture.

Finally, this…

Page 23! Crud…that’s deep.

But then I started thinking, yes it’s page 23 but that really means that I was the 224th most relevant thing on the interwebs when someone typed in the generic term “bacon”. That is 224 out of 39,600,000!!

KA-POW!!

So I’ve got that goin’ for me…which is nice.

Hope y’all had a great day!
