Bacon Pic of the Day – Meat of the Earth…
From The Doings: Hinsdale -
Some rock hounds spot a shiny object and dream of pendants, earrings and brooches. The late Sylvia Josefek saw bacon, eggs and grits in the rocks she found while perusing the country’s great outdoors.
Josefek lived in North Riverside and spent years collecting and perfecting the rocks used to create The Rock Cafe, on display through Sept. 5 at the Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art in Elmhurst. The tabletop-sized exhibit consists of three place settings, all made from stones and all displayed on items obtained through the artist’s other passion — garage sales.
The meals on the Lizzadro menu include a breakfast made of marble onyx that resembles bacon; eggs crafted from marble and aragonite grits topped with yellow Mexican onyx.
So if you are around Elmhurst, IL over the next month, why not stop on Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Arts.
PS – Lapidary means “concerned with stones”. I had to look that one up.

The Oatmeal Coffee Bacon Beer gets it Meat On…
We talked two weeks ago about one Mr. Sean Fallon from the site Nerd Approved was attempting to home brew a fine stout of oatmeal, coffee and…

BACON!
He’s posted an update on the site today. It was time to add the bacon to the brew. I am intrigued by his method of infusion…with the bacon infused bourbon it was about the bacon fat that provided the flavor. Here he’s cooked up a whole batch, popped it into a hops bag and immersed the meat in the brew. Hmmmmm.
And again Sean…if you felt like throwin’ a bottle this way…I’d even spring for shipping

Beer…it’s what’s for Breakfast!
I was catching up on my nerd sites tonight when I came across this…
It may not be pretty now…but in a few weeks it’s going to become a oatmeal, coffee, bacon stout!
Sean Fallon at Nerd Approved is an avid home brewer with a dream. That dream, to take three of his favorite things – bacon, coffee and beer – and put them all together in one tasty beverage.
He is chronicalling his brewing experience over the next few weeks over on the site! TDB wishes you well Sean (and any chance I could get you to send a bottle this way???)
What a week this has been for bacon inginuity. Colored bacon yesterday, homemade bacon beer today…what glorious idea will come next???

Long Overdue…Bacon Sunday VII!
How did the time get away from me??? Here we are, three months into 2010, and “The Daily Bacon” has yet to officially “hold” a BACON SUNDAY?!? The shame, the horror…
So here we go…
BACON SUNDAY VII – BACON HEAVEN!!!
For those new to “TDB”, allow me a minute to explain just what BACON SUNDAY is…
BACON SUNDAY is a day where you are strongly encouraged to enjoy a good old BIG breakfast! It could be a get together with friends, family or even just a quiet morning at a greasy spoon with your newspaper. I am a HUGE proponent of a great breakfast. Some of my favorite memories are around big ole breakfasts.
For those veggie friends of mine, or just those who don’t dig on swine, BACON SUNDAY doesn’t have to include pig…just knowing that you are willing to join in the spirit of the “event” is plenty cool with me!
SO MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
- When: Sunday, March 28, 2010
- From: Whenever you wake up til 2 pm
- Where: Your pick
- With Who: Anyone you’d like to get together with.
Facebook friends: Look for the event invitation over the next day or two.
So “join” us won’t you? May this movement continue to grow!

Saturday Morning Video Funhouse…Rube Goldberg edition
This new video from OK Go is TEARING up the Googleverse!! It made the Yahoo homepage today it’s so hot!
In three words…it is awesome!!! A single tracking shot of a Rube Goldberg inspired masterpiece. You have to watch it several times to really enjoy both the simplicity and complexity of it…
But what has this to do with bacon? Well, it reminded me of the opening scene from one of my favorite movies… [Read more →]

Sunday Breakfast Bacon FAIL!!!
Better Half, Lil’ Baird and I headed on out for a family breakfast and trip to IKEA this morning.
There is this little family restaurant a few blocks down from Swedish Eden that we had visited before and quite liked, so we figured we’d grab breakfast there.
Well when my breakfast came, which was to include 2 strips of crispy sliced pork belly goodness, this is what I got…
THAT qualifies as TWO STRIPS? Look at the fleck of bacon!
ABSOLUTE BACON FAIL!
I am now debating whether we ever go there again. Sure I like their pancakes and they make a mean cup of joe, but short me on my bacon and I will unleash Hell!

Bacon In My Tummy, So Yummy…
So when you spend a bunch of days keepin’ a 17 mo. old busy while she is home sick, you watch A LOT of Nick Jr.
She doesn’t really…she’s bouncing around from toy to toy to snack to beatin’ up on her daddy. However, I just sort of find myself in a hypnotic trance.
Leave it to “Yo Gabba Gabba!” to find a way to engage me. Just add BACON!
Yes with bacon, there is always a party in my tummy! So yummy, so yummy.
