Yup, that’s what I said, bacon + bourbon + brownies.  That equals deliciousness!

See that “crumble” on the top?  That’s diced bacon my friends.

I got wind of these from over at The Food in my Beard (now that sounds like a food blog I could get behind). He’s got great step-by-step photo instructions but no recipe.  For that, you’ll have to use what he did over at Food and Wine.

As we lead up to Thanksgiving next Thursday, I thought I’d work on featuring a recipe each day through Wednesday that you could incorporate into your family meal.  We are callin’ it “Thankin’ for Bacon!” (It’s a rough rhyme, I know, just go with it…)

I thought we’d start with dessert.

As a kid (and still today) I didn’t dig on pumpkin pie so my Grandma would always make an apple pie just for me.  I think she’s approve of this modification to the classic…

About a year ago we “reported” about Marini’s Candies in Santa Cruz and their offering choco-bacon on their online store.

Well imagine my surprise when Better Half comes home from her girl’s trip in California with this…

Aw yeah…

That my friends is actual choco-bacon with a maple candy drizzle.

And that is the last bite!  It’s fuzzy but you can still see that bacon goodness just nestled inside some really tasty chocolate.

Believe it or not (and most of you won’t) this was my first slice of choco-bacon!  It was absolutely delicious!  What made it so good?  Really solid chocolate.  I mean good!  The bacon added a nice crunch and hint of salt and smoke.  I was really surprised by the balance and then that maple drizzle just sent it over the moon.

I can not recommend this enough!

But Michael, I don’t have a Better Half going to California who can serve as my choco-bacon mule…well you can still get this sent to your home…

Yesterday’s “Better with Bacon” featured recipe, the Maple French Toast & Bacon Cupcake, came from the “Food Network Magazine” and provided yet another take on what is becoming a trend in the dessert world – sweet & savory desserts featuring bacon!

When I was a kid, I used to love to bake: Nestle Tollhouse Cookies, Skywalker Crunchies (I know…nerd), cakes, brownies, etc.  I need to say upfront that it has been quite some time since I actually baked anything but this looked so good that I had to try.

What I didn’t expect was the amount of time it took to make these.  The recipe said 40 minutes, but turns out that was just the baking time.  I started this project at 9:15 pm and didn’t finish until 11:30 pm.  Granted, my lack of current experience may have hindered me, but making stuff from scratch like this takes a while (that did also include clean up as the cupcakes were in the oven).

Let’s break this down, it starts with Double Stuff Oreos that are dipped in dark chocolate.  Then it’s “wrapped” in chocolate chip cookie dough.  Next is a mixture of peanut butter and…..wait for it…..BACON cookie dough.  You then completely encase in brownie mix and bake.

This from the Mastermind over at CFA - That stands for Cooking for A**H****.  Yes, I “*”ed out some letters, that’s my warning to you that their language (like there site name) may be inappropriate for our tiny FoTDBer’s. (and thanks to That’s Nerdalicious for the heads up)

It’s Ham Solo in CandyBaronite!

It’s a chocolate Han Solo with peanut butter and BACON in the center! This is Awesome wrapped in Awesomemer with Awesomeness!!

Don’t believe me? Look at this…and try not to blow your mind…

What kind of woman 1) makes a mold of Han Solo in Carbonite, 2) makes chocolate bars in said mold and 3) puts bacon in her chocolate bar in said mold of Han Solo and 4) comes up with the name Ham Solo???
