France Finds a Way to Make Phantom Menace Cool…

To “celebrate” (and we use that term loosely) the re-release of The Phantom Menace in 3D, the French fast food chain Quick has developed some new burgers.

Yes that is a black bun!  A BLACK FREAKIN’ BUN!  I want me a Dark Vador burger, want me one bad!  Although given my recent history, I’m afraid something like this may happen…

Have a great night everyone!

So THAT’s Why I Like Chipotle so Much…

There’s bacon in them darn beans!  I’ll let the Huffington Post fill you in:

Chipotle has always advised vegetarian and vegan customers to avoid pinto beans on its website. The beans are cooked with “a small amount of bacon,” unlike the Mexican chain’s black beans, which are vegan. But in-store menus do not indicate the porkiness of the pinto, and Chipotle’s burrito assemblers are instructed to inform customers of the bacon inclusion only if they order a burrito without other meat.

So this Senior Editor over at Maxim, who doesn’t dig on swine for ”for religious and cultural reasons,” find out that all those burrito’s he’s been eating got a little bacon in them.  He goes off about his discovery on the twitterverse which then get’s him a call from the CEO of Chipotle who says he will change the companies menus to include a mention about the bacon.

Now normally I’d go off on the dude eatin’ the Chipotle.  If you have specific dietary needs, then you should be inquiring when you order at ANY establishment…but Chipotle does have a responsibility to be more up front about their menu considering their entire business has been build on a message of quality ingredients and the perception that their food is a healthier choice (I mean, see above).  Live by the three, die by the three Chip!  Kudo’s though to Steve Ells for reaching out directly and knocking this situation down asap!  Like to see CEO’s taking quick action.

BTV – New Taco Bell Ad…

Literally JUST saw this spot while watching the Tigers game…

YouTube Preview Image

“…it’s, it’s intoxicating.”

Not the most clever ad in the word, but the blonde’s delivery when asking if the red head if she smells bacon was pretty good, so was the doufus troupe of guys.

Still not as good as one of my favorite ads of all time…it’s the same basic premise, just I believe this one was executed perfectly.

Fast Food Friday – Just How Bad is the Double Down?

I found this earlier this week over at Geekologie and thought it was pretty interesting / revealing.

The chart breaks down just how other type of sandwiches from various Fast Food joints one has to consume to equal the perceived evil of the KFC Double Down.

All you healthy eating kids who think that by going to a place like Panera = good food…oh boy, think again.  Their Chipotle Chicken sandwich DESTROYS the Double Down

Even the Subway Chicken Bacon Ranch Sandwich isn’t that healthy comparatively (although the Subway Grilled Chickenmay very well be a good alternative for the hungry man).

I was just talking about this with some of my former Fathead peeps (and FOTDB*) last night.  The Double Down isn’t that evil and if you balance it’s consumption against what you may choose to eat the rest of the day you could do okay.  If like anything else, if you only eat this day-in / day-out for any period of time, then you’ll be either 600 lbs or dead.

Yes, I know this is just a surface analysis but still something to think about next time you are gonna grab a chicken sandwich somewhere.

Fast Food Friday – It’s ALIVE!!!!

Last August, we talked about this:

wtf-sandwich

KFC’s Double Down Sandwich. It features two breaded chicken breasts covering cheese, bacon and the Colonel’s “special sauce”.

Many thought it was a hoax, but it appears that it was indeed being tested in several markets and now…NEWS FLASH

Yes, for realz…

You can get it in either Original Recipe or Grilled.  What???  No extra crispy??  I mean seriously…if you think I was worried about my health would I even be ordering one of these? GET ME THE EXTRA CRISPY!!

Expect a review on 4/16.  You can then visit me in the hospital on 4/17.

Thanks Seth (SHOUT OUT!) for the heads up.

Fast Food Friday – Hardees

After a three week break, we are back to eating bacon cheeseburgers in the name of bacon science!

The main reason for the break is that we have reached a point during this experiment where there are no longer any new, unreviewed QSR’s near my house.  This requires me to actually travel to get fast food and to be honest the idea of having to drive 20 minutes or even more to get a burger…well…let’s just say it’s been tough to get motivated.

But today I was already on the road and fate let me right past one of the few Hardee’s left in metro Detroit.  So lunch at Hardee’s it was… [Read more →]

Fast Food Friday – White Castle

This week’s adventure in fast food bacon takes us to White Castle

To be honest, I had no idea they even had a bacon cheeseburger.  I have made many a stop to the Castle during my day but I’ve pretty much always just got the same thing (a sack of 6 and fries – yes, six) and never even bothered to read the menu.

It was strange actually walking into the restaurant as my typical White Castle experience is a late night drive thru run.

With expectations low I ordered two bacon cheeseburgers and two bacon double cheeseburgers and got to to eating… [Read more →]

Fast Food Friday – Del Taco

Yes, you read that right, Del Taco!

With only five stores in Michigan, it was very easy never to come in contact with this traditional left coast chain.

I ate there for the first time just about a year ago when after changing jobs I noticed one of their locations along my new route to work.  Felling like trying something new, I went in. They had all your basic taco hut stuff on their menu but then I saw…HAMBURGERS!  What?!? Hamburgers at a taco joint?  Look at the menu for yourself…

deltaco1

I know, madness right?!? It was like dogs and cats living together…I was confused and slightly afraid so I just ordered my soft tacos and got out of there.

But, they had burgers.  So on the list they went for “Fast Food Fridays”

Without further ado…let’s get to the bacon! [Read more →]

Fast Food Friday – Fatburger

Fatburger!

For a long time – it was just a mythical place out in California.  Then on a business trip in LA, I had my first.  I remember it being good, just sort of crossed it off my internal checklist and then moved on.

Well color me shocked when a Fatburger opened in Michigan.  There is only one store in this entire state and it is literally only 5 miles from me.  This must be fate…

Yet my normal driving pattern never takes me near it.  So on Christmas Eve, while out playing Santa Dad, I made a trip to remind myself about this great little place and officially give that bacon a try!
