Are you ready for the Smithfield “PouchPack”?

SMITHFIELD, Va. – Hearing bacon-lovers’ cry for more delicious Smithfield bacon in a package that keeps bacon fresh, the company rolls-out an innovative package design new to the retail bacon category. Smithfield PouchPack is the only bacon package to offer two stay-fresh pouches each containing approximately six slices of uncooked, stacked bacon. The pouches are perforated for easy separation allowing consumers the flexibility of choosing how much bacon to cook at one time. The bacon saved for later stays fresh, sealed in the pouch for the next occasion.

The Smithfield PouchPack has additional advantages over typical bacon packaging in terms of convenience. Each pouch has an E-Z Peel opening that gives the consumer easy, mess-free access to the bacon. In other words, no more scissors and greasy hands. Plus, the bacon in the pouch is stacked so slices peel apart more easily.

This is something I can get behind.  The only issue I have is that there are only six slices in each pouch.  Typically you get 16 slices in a standard pound.  Where did the extra four slices go?  Well, you’re paying for it in convenience.  I need eight slices Smithfield.  Eight slices = two BLT sandwiches.  Six slices does not cut it!  Eight slices = four for daddy, two for Better Half and two for Lil’ (of which I’d eat one).  Six slices and my family goes hungry.

So bravo on concept but let’s get those slices back in the pack.

Blazin’ Hot Bacon Dip

Ingredients

• 1/2 lb. Smithfield bacon, cooked crisp and crumbled
• 8 oz cream cheese
• 1 (10 oz.) can of diced tomatoes with green chilies, drained
• 2 limes, juiced
• 1/2 chipotle pepper in adobo sauce, chopped
• 1 bunch cilantro, roughly chopped
• Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

1. Place all ingredients, except Smithfield bacon, in the bowl of a food processor and pulse a few times to combine. Do not process until completely smooth, keep slightly chunky. Pour mixture into a mixing bowl and fold in all but a tablespoon of bacon.
2. Pour dip into a serving bowl and top with remaining tablespoon bacon. Serve with tortilla chips, crackers or vegetables.
