International Bacon Day…Sept. 5
That’s right, tomorrow is officially the second FIFTH annual “International Bacon Day“.

Logo made by me, with apologies to the United Nations
International Bacon Day is held on the Saturday before the US Labor Day holiday (the first Monday of Sept.). Last year Bacon Day was celebrated in the US, Australia, Canada, South Africa, Switzerland, and the UK.
International Bacon Day was the brain child of Alexa and the Bacon Boys– a group of bloggers from Colorado. This from their website:
Bacon Day is open to everyone. Vegetarians can have fake-con (soy bacon) and religious objectors non-pork bacon (I suggest turkey bacon).
Bacon Day is a day of Bacon… think Iron Chef but all day and the secret ingredient is Bacon. Breakfast traditionally consists of bacon waffles, with a side of bacon, and any other concoctions thought up. Throughout the day there are showings of Kevin Bacon movies and any other movies with leading roles given to pigs, e.g. Babe, Piglet’s Big Adventure. Lunch must have BLTs and there are snacks around and slices of bacon everywhere. Dinner is a fight for your food quite literally. It is more a tasting of all things bacon and everyone wants a taste. Due to the vast quantities of bacon cooked, the grill outside is the best bet. If you are invited to a Bacon Day celebration, it is traditional to bring something to eat (of course containing bacon) which can be made there if the host allows, and drink (which may or may not include bacon).
While we here at The Daily Bacon have set aside select Sunday’s (say that five times fast) as BACON SUNDAY, let us heed this call to arms my bacon lovin’ brothers and sisters and rejoice in the sweet, smokey taste of pork tomorrow!

Have a great weekend!

Milestone #4…6 months and counting!
Hello again to all the FoTDB (Friends of The Daily Bacon)!
Wow…six month! This is a big step for me. I honestly can’t believe that I have kept this up for this long. Only 22 days during this six months have I not posted to TDB (I only missed one day in June). I think I’m finding my rhythm.
Thanks to all my regular visitors and friends for stopping by. I hope you’ve gotten some enjoyment out of this experiment so far. To all my new guests who’ve clicked their way over here to this little spot on the interwebs, looking for one thing or another, I hope you found what you were looking for and that you come back often. Me blog es su blog.
A HUGE thank you to all those over the last few months that have been sending me their bacon links, stories, events, etc. You don’t know how much it means to me to have you participate in this with me. I get a huge smile on my face whenever a bacon email comes through.
Some stats to share:
- TDB got a makeover…hope you like the new look.

Also, I am featuring two new partners on the site.

REMINDER – BACON SUNDAY 4!

This is just a friendly reminder that this Sunday, June 7th, is BACON SUNDAY 4.
BACON SUNDAY is my way of “celebrating” breakfast and encouraging all of you to take time and enjoy the morning with friends, family or even just by yourself with a big old Sunday newspaper (before it becomes extinct) and an old fashioned breakfast.
Better Half, Lil’ Baird and I will likely be heading over to Alex’s in Berkley so I can get a Meat Lover’s Scramble (no eggs). What will you be doing to celebrate?
Facebookians – You can officially “RSVP” for this “event” through The Daily Bacon group page.
Tell the world you love breakfast! (and BACON!)

BACON SUNDAY IV…It’s Time…
It’s been awhile, I think the world needs another BACON SUNDAY!

For all the new folks comin’ by, BACON SUNDAY is a day that you set aside to truly enjoy a breakfast! It could be you getting together with friends, family or even just a quiet morning at a greasy spoon with your newspaper.
As the name suggests, I select a Sunday and I encourage you to have bacon with that meal.
We have people who have wanted to “attend” BACON SUNDAY, but don’t dig on pork for various reasons. I have heard them and say that BACON SUNDAY is really morning about the act of taking time and enjoying that big breakfast than consumption of bacon. (Even though I’ll probably go through a pound of pork myself
).
So mark JUNE 7, 2009 on your calendars and make plans for BACON SUNDAY IV!
You can also visit The Daily Bacon’s group page on Facebook to “RSVP“.

Hello my FoTDB! (Friends of The Daily Bacon)!
Today marked Milestone #2 for this little slice on the interwebs – 2,000 page views!
I am flattered that you folks stop by and I hope you take a little enjoyment from my ramblings. Knowing that the 10′s of you keep coming back is my motivation to keep posting something fresh everyday! It’s been very enjoyable so far and I look to sharing more down the road!
Thank you!
(Yes, there is a gratuitous amount of “!” in the above post. But it’s only to show my excitement and appreciation!
)
I also just noticed that THIS post is itself a Milestone – POST #100!! YEAH!!!

Lazy Sunday…
Just chillin’ in the crib today with Better Half and Lil’ Baird! Woke up super late due to this freakin’ cold that’s been moving around our house. But when I did wake, it was to the smell of coffee and banana bread – God love Better Half. It wasn’t bacon…but still pretty darn good!
Wanted to share two things today with my 10′s of readers…
First, a reminder about “Bacon Sunday III“. It is next Sunday. Visit “The Daily Bacon” Facebook group page for more info and to confirm you will be attending…
Second, as I was bouncing around the various bacon blogs on the interwebs today, I came across this great video. It’s on YouTube but credit to the Bacon Salt Blog for posting…for your pleasure and because I know you don’t bounce around Bacon sites on your Sunday, I give you Jim Gaffigan…
Truer words have never been spoken.
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday and GO SPARTANS!

Better with Bacon…ABT’s
This recipe comes from former Fathead collegue Jen (SHOUT OUT!). She posted it on our Facebook Group for “The Daily Bacon”
They are called Atomic Buffalo Turds…I know…yummy. But trust me…I think these are going to have to go into the Test Kitchen.

Here is a list of ingredients to make approximately 20 ABT’s.
20 Fresh Jalapenos (Pick the straighter ones when you choose)
20 Cheddar Lit’l Smokies (1 package contains approximately 36 sausages)
1 Pkg. Cream Cheese (8 oz.)
2 Lbs. Bacon ½ or 1 strip per ABT
1/8 Med. Mexican Sweet Onion (Diced)
1 Tblspn. Turbinado Sugar
The link to the complete recipe and photos can be found here.
Enjoy!Â

WHAT IS GOING ON????
No worries…last night I finally was able to install wordpress to my domain. I was using wordpress.com and redirecting the blog to thedailybacon.com. Now, through wordpress.org, the program now sits directly on my domain! YEAH!
This will allow me to play with the CSS to create my own design and hopefully open up a lot more widgets to play with.
Anyone a wordpresser who can provide some tips…I’d love to hear what you have to say!
