Better with Bacon – Stompy Pie

Oh my gawd…..

I have never heard or seen such a thing and I truly believe I am a better person for now knowing this exists.

This recipe was submitted to “Red Eye“, the Chicago Alt Paper, for a contest called the Virtual Kitchen Stadium where readers submit recipes for “Top Chef” winner, Stephanie Izard to judge.  After three weeks, a finalist is selected and will cook their dish with Stephanie at one of her Wandering Goat dinners.

Just read below and see if you don’t have the same reaction I did, along with your mouth watering profusely!

Top Chef: Vegas – Week Two & Three Recap…

66uzmdk

Since I was busy tasering people last week, I missed the “Top Chef” program.  Thanks to the miracle that is DVR, I watched last week’s episode right before this week’s.  Here’s the bullet recap (don’t read if you haven’t seen the show yet): [Read more →]

Blog Interrupted…

Hello all…

Between traveling this week for work and now preparing for the funeral of a friend and mentor this evening, I have not been able to post.

I hope to catch up this weekend.  I have received some great articles from friends, would like to show you a few scenes from the SWAT Challenge I attended, share thoughts about this week’s “Top Chef” and will have to catch up on “Fast Food Friday” next week (which I need to skip cause I didn’t get to Burger King).

Oh, I’m also finally buying some pork belly this weekend for the BLTfSC and have a few recipes I hope I can share as “Test Kitchen” posts…

My best!  Have a great weekend!

BTV – Top Chef Returns…

So last night was a GREAT night as “Top Chef: Las Vegas” premiered.

66uzmdk

I LOVE “Top Chef”!!!  There I said it.  I even really dug “Top Chef Masters” (which wrapped up last night, but it’s still on the DVR, so don’t tell me anything about it) but let’s face it, it just didn’t have the same energy as the original.

- Here is where if you haven’t seen last night show yet, you should bail, cause I’m gonna talk about what went down! – [Read more →]

“Top Chef” Hints…Use Bacon!

Top Chef” is one of my favorite shows on Television!!  I am even really liking “Top Chef: Masters” even though I know that it is really just a placeholder until this next season starts in two weeks from Las Vegas…

“TIME Magazine” TV critic James Poniewozik put a list together for this season’s contestants on what to do / not to do.  As I read the list I just kept nodding my head in agreement.

Here’s number 2 on his list:

2. Do use bacon. People love bacon. Carnivores love it, health nuts crave it, vegetarians forswear solemn oaths for it. Dishes featuring bacon regularly get praise, even gratitude, from judges. Indeed, the power of bacon is so great, it can even overcome the do-not-rely-on-the-freezer rule: Richard Blais did well in Season 4 making bacon ice cream. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go crumble some into a sundae.

Preach on, preach on.

The rest of the article is over at TIME.com.  It’s a good little read, check it out.

Why I like Tom Colicchio…

“Top Chef” head judge, chef and restaurateur, Tom Colicchio (and some photos of his home – nice taste) is profiled in a “Domains” feature in the “New York Times Magazine“…I draw your attention to this one question and answer…

Always in fridge: Fresca. It is just a great drink. No calories; tastes like citrus. Also there’ll be bacon or some kind of cured pork.

And that is why I like Tom Colicchio!

Speaking of “Top Chef”this is why I like Padma Lakshami  ;-)

Someone Likes Her Bacon…

So bouncing around the googleverse today and came across a story about Padma Lakshami, the host of “Top Chef” on Bravo, was staring in a new hamburger commercial.

Okay, curious…I like Padma and “Top Chef” is one of my favorite shows…so let’s go to the video tape…

uummmmmmmmmmm…ahhhhhhhhhhhhh…..wow?!?

She really seems to like her bacon cheeseburgers!

I have been in a few Carl’s Jr.s in my day and I can tell you from experience that I have never seen a woman who looked like her in a Carl’s Jr…or outside of Carl’s Jr…or even within a 3 mile radius of a Carl’s Jr…beside that, it’s completely believable!  ;-)

Ah advertising, with your pretty women eating things I like!
