Fast Food Friday – Del Taco
Yes, you read that right, Del Taco!
With only five stores in Michigan, it was very easy never to come in contact with this traditional left coast chain.
I ate there for the first time just about a year ago when after changing jobs I noticed one of their locations along my new route to work. Felling like trying something new, I went in. They had all your basic taco hut stuff on their menu but then I saw…HAMBURGERS! What?!? Hamburgers at a taco joint? Look at the menu for yourself…
I know, madness right?!? It was like dogs and cats living together…I was confused and slightly afraid so I just ordered my soft tacos and got out of there.
But, they had burgers. So on the list they went for “Fast Food Fridays”…
Without further ado…let’s get to the bacon!
So here she is, the Bacon Double Del Cheeseburger. Nice touch with the wax paper wrapping but isn’t it kind of overkill to wrap and then box?
Okay, so far not bad. Decent size, I can see bacon popping over the edge of the burger…intrigued…let’s get that top off…
Awwwwww man, really? Sad little fast food bacon. Longer strips than you usually see but thin and over cooked. Also, if you are going to bother to place three strips on the burger, don’t just stack them all in the middle.
This was a little piece that I was able to pull away from the cheese. Look at how THIN! How can this even be called a slice? It’s more like a wisp. Bacon bits are thicker than this.
As for taste, what taste? It was bland, overcooked and on the salty side. Much like most of the bacon we are finding along this “Fast Food Bacon Tour” of ours.
On a side note:
- The burger wasn’t that bad at all. In fact it was pretty decent. But I’m not going back to Del Taco for burgers, I’ll go there for Tacos.
- Why do they serve all their combo meals with fries? I mean ALL their combo meals. Just strange to me. I like their fries (although they could be cooked a little bit longer) but not that big of a fan of crinkle fries with my burrito. Is this a left coast thing we are missing out on in the Midwest?
- We had ourselves a massive ice FAIL. Almost 70% of my glass through the drive thru was ice. Come on!!!
Okay, enough of the tangents, let’s get to the BRS:

Del Taco is totally rank. The West Coast has an abundance of fast food places not found in the MidWest, some good [In-N-Out, Carls Jr.] and some hideous [Jack in the Box, Del Taco.] I had no idea that Del Taco has invaded Michigan. That’s sad.
Just five of them and on mostly on east side…
In-N-Out maybe the greatest QSR of them all in terms of quality, but I need you to go to Five Guys and get a burger and fries!
