BTV – What to Watch…

So just sittin’ on the couch last night, clicker in hand and nothing on TV so I found myself some Food Network and settled in.

First, an hour of “Ace of Cakes” – sweet!  They made a zombie cake with a haunted chapel last night for a couple getting married on Halloween. I mean come on people – a ZOMBIE cake.  Of course I am going to watch that.

Next, an episode of “Unwrapped“.  Okay, break time…but WAIT…here’s how they make Ready To Eat packaged bacon at Tyson.  Okay, I’ll watch that segment (more on boxed bacon this week).

But then…to my most terrific surprise, what came on after that?  A new series called “The Best Thing I Ever Ate“.  On this show, they interview chefs (mostly Food Network stars) about their favorite dish featuring a specific ingredient.

So one guess what that ingredient was last night…

Come on…

You can do it…

This blog is about nerdy stuff and what????

YES – BACON!

Oh and was it ever scrum-dilly-icious.

I would show you some of the show…but the Food Network 1) makes it almost impossible to embed video clips from their site and B) does not have any clips from this ep up on the site.  So I will just tell you to tune in on July 11th at 6:00 pm EST to watch the replay.  It’s a good half-hour, trust me!

Thanks for the heads up on “The Best Thing I Ever Ate”. I’ve never even bothered even reading the ‘info’ on that show because it sounds really really lame, but I’ll watch the bacon show for sure.

I also flat out hate “Unwrapped”, but if they’ve got an episode on that pre-cooked bacon I’ll watch it. That stuff freaks me out, by the way. I have a natural aversion to any meat product that is sold unrefrigerated. And why in the hell would you want to forgo cooking the bacon yourself – it’s freaking easy and the smell it imbues you home with is almost as awesome as the taste!

The bacon ep was really interesting – think you’ll like it!

Of course there is always “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives”. I think bacon is featured in just about every restaurant recipe he tries on the show.

Unwrapped is freaky, it’s TMI in most cases. I just don’t want to know. I agree with you on the precooked stuff. My wife bought a box and I just recently tried it…can’t really say it even tasted much like bacon. That will be the last box in the house.
