Taste Test – Son of Baconator…

About two weeks ago, Wendy’s (the now #2 hamburger chain in the country – SHOUT OUT) reached back out to yours truly to let me know about the release of their newest sandwich, the Son of Baconator.  To paraphrase the email – “Try it, you’ll like it.”

Okay, I’m game.

You know what happens when a burger is prepared upon order, wrapped in paper and presented this way?

You get a pretty good looking burger…let’s take a closer look with my terrible (phone) camera…

Bacon and cheese staggered between two beef patties!  This turns out to be a real important step.  Constructing the burger this way provides really great bacon flavor in every bite.  Seriously, there was real nice “balance” with this burger and I was genuinely surprised with how much I liked it!  It’s just the right about of burger to not completely overwhelm the bacon, as has not been case with many other burgers out there.  They do this by using two jr. patties opposed to the regular 1/4 patties and I think they hit on a winning combination.

I was also looking at the nutrition info on Wendy’s site (cause tubby’s trying to lose some weight) and here’s how the son stacks up against “daddy” as well as one of my all time favs, the Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger…

My play has always been two Jr.’s, but based on this, it looks like I’ll be changing up.  Bacon burger goodness at 100 calories less that my two Jr.’s and 270 calories less than the Baconator.

So…

• tasty burger – check
• filling – check
• “fewest” calories – check

That’s pretty good Wendy’s!
