When Jobs Collide…TOMCAR & Fathead

Just over a week ago, the place where I used to work, Fathead (makers of dynamic, high quality, life-like wall graphics of athletes, team logos and entertainment properties ;-) ) began selling Fathead Customs, allowing you to upload your favorite photos and get them made into Fatheads.

This caused me to raise an eyebrow.  When I was with Fathead, we always had quality concerns with producing one-off images.

Fatheads were produced through traditional off-set printing with a “stamped” die-cut.  Print On Demand meant finding a digital option with a laser die-cut.  A lot of companies sprung up provding this service, but when we’d order a sample from them, you could tell that our product was just that much superior…so now Fathead seemed to have all of this worked out?  Color me intrigued.

Well, the office space at TOMCAR has plenty of blank walls so why not get me a TOMCAR Fathead?

So, following there on-line instructions, this is what I uploaded to Fathead:

How’d it turn out?  See after the jump…Notice all the other images surrounding the main vehicle image?  Here’s a secret…fill up your sheet!!!  You will have to design the image in photoshop or something similar, but if you take a little time to set it up as opposed to just uploading a standard photo, you can get more for your money.

In just less than a week, my TOMCAR Fathead showed up at the office.  I was like a kid on Christmas as I opened up the box and unrolled the sheet and started peeling off all the smaller pieces…

They fit real well in the hallway!

So now, where to place that TM2 image???

Well, I had to move offices this last week and as it just so happens I have a big old plank wall!  So I recalled all my Fathead installation skills, carefully pulled off the TM2 from the backing and got it up on the wall.*

KA-POW!

Here’s a closer look from straight on:

The picture doesn’t even do it justice.  The colors came out great, real sharp resolution and no adhesive problems.  I can’t recommend this enough and I’m not saying that as a former employee, I’m saying it as a paying, satisfied customer.

Next…THE DAILY BACON FATHEAD!!!!????  Hmmmmmmm….

* When I was with Fathead, I could put up just about any one of our images by myself.  This was a skill I picked up because I would typically have to load-in our trade/consumer shows by myself. YOU should not try this at home!!  Always install a Fathead with 4 hands!!
